Overpopulation: Artificial Intelligence Offers a Historic Opportunity to Prevent a Global Crisis
Geneva, July 11 – On the occasion of World Population Day, the Raelian Movement reiterates the urgent need to act in the face of population growth that already exceeds the planet's capacity. While resources dwindle and social tensions intensify, a new ally is emerging: Artificial Intelligence, capable of helping humanity avert an impending catastrophe.
“AI offers us a comprehensive vision that humans have never had. It reveals the urgency of acting, but also the possible solutions. For the first time, we have the technological means to stabilize the world's population in a peaceful, ethical, and intelligent way,” emphasized Fabien Delhoume, leader of the international campaign raising awareness about the risks of overpopulation in Europe.
For more than 50 years, Rael, founder and spiritual leader of the Raelian Movement, has warned about the dangers of continuous global population growth. “Today, the most advanced technological tools are confirming those warnings. AI systems, capable of analyzing billions of data points in real time, clearly demonstrate that the planet can no longer sustain a model based on infinite growth,” the spokesperson continued.
“AI already makes it possible to identify precisely where demographic pressure is greatest, anticipate water and food shortages, and optimize the use of resources. But its potential extends far beyond data analysis,” he added. “Through AI, education can reach even the most remote regions, access to contraception can be expanded, and reproductive health programs can be tailored to the actual needs of populations.”
When used to promote human fulfillment and well-being, these technological advances align with the humanistic and societal solutions that form the foundation of Raelian philosophy, including education, women’s autonomy and bodily sovereignty, parenthood by choice, and the widespread dissemination of scientific knowledge. “AI can accelerate each of these transformations,” emphasized Fabien Delhoume.
Automation and robotics also play a key role. By freeing humanity from arduous or repetitive tasks, they allow us to envision a society where prosperity no longer depends on an ever-growing workforce. "Overpopulation is the result of an archaic view of human labor. Thanks to robotics and AI, we can finally build a society where quality of life takes precedence over the quantity of human beings," he explains.
The Raelian Movement calls on governments and international institutions to integrate these technologies into their demographic strategies, promote comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) programs, and guarantee universal access to contraception. It also reiterates that religious dogmas that oppose these solutions endanger the future of humanity.
“AI will never replace love or human consciousness, but it can help us avoid the worst. Let us use it to create a world in which every child is wanted and humanity finally lives in harmony with its planet,” concluded Fabien Delhoume.
