Rael applauds UNESCO position favoring early sex education for children
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 18 – Rael, founder and leader of the International Raelian Movement, said this morning that he supports a controversial new United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) draft report favoring early sex education for children. He also sent his full support to Mark Richmond, UNESCO's global coordinator for HIV and AIDS, who advocated this report. Guidelines in the report were compiled by a team of experts, who reviewed more than 80 studies before reaching their conclusions.
“This scientific and accurate report expresses the exact values taught by the Raelian Movement philosophy,” Rael said in a statement released this morning.
According to a Sept. 10 article in Britain’s Daily Mail, the UNESCO draft report advocates teaching children about masturbation as well as about other sexual acts and orientations, abortion and sexually transmitted diseases. Further, it states that some of this instruction, including information about the pleasurable feelings obtained from self stimulation, is desirable as early as age 5.
By age 12, children should be learning about abortion and contraception issues, according to the report. Guidelines covering appropriate sex topics for four age groups are slated to reach authorities and education officials worldwide by the end of October.
“This precise advice of teaching children fully about sex has always been part of the Raelian philosophy, and was, in fact, given to Rael by the Elohim, the advanced scientists from another planet who are humanity’s true creators,” said Brigitte Boisselier, spokesperson for the Raelian Movement. “It’s a great moment for us Raelians to see that experts are finally being heard by U.N. authorities and that children will be given the tools they need to start such an important part of their lives.”
Boisselier said that eliminating fear and guilt about sex is part of Rael's teachings and that implementing the UNESCO guidelines will not only help young people reach that goal but greatly reduce unwanted pregnancies, abortion and the spread of STDs.
“It will also help children defend themselves against pedophiles, since they will have more understanding of what is going on,” she added. Responding to critics of the guidelines who say young children shouldn’t be exposed to sex education, Boisselier said:
“For Raelians, it’s appalling that innocent children are subjected to dogma that makes them feel guilty and ashamed about sex – something that’s as natural as eating or sleeping. The bury-the-head-in-the-sand approach to sex education is what led to the AIDS epidemic in the world but also to so much emotional sufferings for teenagers and even adults who cannot live fully what they want to live because the Pope and other religious leaders have said that it was wrong. Religious leaders have ignored scientific data and clang to outdated, inaccurate ideas, for far too long and are responsible for millions of people who suffer and die needlessly. These new guidelines are a big step forward and we deeply hope they’ll be adopted worldwide!”
